Prints
Botanical prints are a rich source of information for the botanist and gardener, and a great pleasure for the art lover. The earliest were produced during the late seventeenth an early eighteenth century and by the end of the eighteenth century were a very well developed form of art and scientific record. This tradition still continues today.

Paintings
For centuries paintings of various kinds have been used to depict aquatic plants, fish, ponds and latterly water gardens. The Art Gallery endeavours to show the great range of painting styles, and the richness and diversity of materials used, in the popular depiction of some of our most attractive aquatic companions.

Posters
Poster art has long been a widespread and popular method of artistic expression. With modern printing and reproduction techniques it has developed into a major industry. Many of the images produced are of aquatic subjects, posters of Monet paintings being found in art shops around the world. The poster has universal appeal and is celebrated here.

Photography
Modern photography has heralded a new art form, especially the science and art of macro-photography. Apart from being able to create great artistic images it has enabled botanists and gardeners to see parts of a flower or plant that were previously denied them. Likewise fish images have been transformed, not only decoratively but scientifically.
